Dr. Darshan Patel

Darshan Patel, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Urologist and Men’s Health specialist.
He specializes in conditions that solely affect men such as erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, male infertility, enlarged prostate, and cosmetic genitourinary surgery. He is an expert in microsurgical vasectomy reversal, varicocele repair, and testicular sperm extraction as well as medical treatments and advanced surgical reconstruction for complex Peyronie's Disease and erectile dysfunction. He offers minimally invasive surgical therapies for enlarged prostate, including UroLift and Rezum. Dr. Patel also has expertise in providing gender-affirming care to transgender and nonbinary patients.

As an assistant professor in the Department of Urology, he trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine and also conducts research. Dr. Patel's research interests include survivorship after prostate cancer treatments and urologic quality of life after spinal cord injury. He has been previously funded through competitive grants through the American Urological Association and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. He has a special interest in understanding the relationship between overall health and erectile dysfunction and male sub-fertility.

He is an associate editor for Therapeutic Advances in Urology, Reproductive Health, International Journal of Impotence Research and Frontiers in Reproductive Health and serves as a peer reviewer for over a dozen medical journals focused on andrology (reproductive urology) and men's health. Dr. Patel has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, textbook chapters and editorials. His research has appeared in journals such Fertility and Sterility, Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Urology, Journal of Urology, World Journal of Urology, and the British Journal of Urology.

Dr. Patel completed a fellowship in andrology and men's health at University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, where he also did his residency in urologic surgery. He also completed a clinical research fellowship in reconstructive urology and men's health at the University of Utah. He obtained his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

He is a member of the American Society of Andrology, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Urological Association, Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, Sexual Medicine Society of North America and Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons. Dr. Patel is fluent in Gujarati.

Dr. Patel is the only Urologist in Southern California with a Center of Excellence designation for both the Coloplast Titan and Boston Scientific 700 series penile implants. He finds it rewarding to be able to connect with men about often-sensitive issues such as erectile dysfunction or infertility. It is his goal to offer all his patients a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan and guide them on a path toward better health and wellness.

Outside of work, Dr. Patel enjoys weight training, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking and spending time outdoors with his family.
