About Dr. Mina Makary
Dr. Mina Makary is a board-certified vascular and interventional radiologist who specializes in interventional oncology, complex hepatobiliary care, genitourinary interventions, venous disease and reconstruction, visceral arterial disorders, women's health including uterine fibroids' care, pain management, vascular and dialysis access, and diagnostic imaging.
He performs cutting-edge minimally invasive approaches to provide patients with better outcomes, shorter recovering time and reduced complications. He firmly believes that it's a privilege to be a part of the care of each patient and their treatment journey. His care philosophy is centered around listening to my patients, addressing their individual concerns and simply treating them as he would want a member of his family treated. He particularly enjoys taking care of cancer patients and providing comprehensive care from the initial biopsy and chemotherapy port placement, to locoregional therapies including TACE/TAE/TARE and ablations, and lastly palliative therapies. He employs an interdisciplinary approach to provide patients with an individualized treatment plan and the best possible care. He partners with each patient so together they can achieve their personal treatment goals.
He also has special expertise in advanced venous interventions including endovascular reconstructions of chronically-occluded veins, management of deep venous thrombosis and IVC filters, as well as parathyroid venous sampling, and has been recognized for his pioneering work in all three areas. Additionally, he has a particular interest in minimally-invasive embolization therapy of symptomatic uterine fibroids and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It's a true joy and privilege to be able to serve patients with these conditions, and have the opportunity to develop individualized treatment plans that meet their needs and provide them with the best care possible.
Originally from Columbus, he is proud to have had the privilege of obtaining his medical doctorate as well as completing both his interventional and diagnostic radiology training at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he served as a chief resident. He is dual board-certified in interventional radiology as well as diagnostic radiology, and he currently serves on the faculty of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He is passionate about academics and research, quality improvement and technology, and leadership and service.
Through collaborative research efforts, he strives to find better therapies and cures for his current and future patients. He has authored numerous scholarly papers, abstracts and book chapters, presented at national and regional conferences, and has been recognized for his contributions by prestigious research honors, academic awards and grants. As a recognition of his efforts in this area, he currently serves as the Director of Scholarly Activity and Research in the Department of Radiology.
He also serves in a variety of leadership roles as well as in institutional and national committees to help contribute to the advancement of the field and advocate for patients and their medical needs. He is a member of several professional societies including the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), the Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, drawing, classical music, choir singing and jogging.
