About Dr. Rajeev Suri
Dr. Suri is a tenured Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Radiology at UT Health San Antonio, and is the President Medical Dental Staff (Chief of Staff) at the University Health San Antonio. Dr. Suri completed his medical school training at Christian Medical College, India followed by Radiology Residency Training at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, India. Subsequently, Dr. Suri completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency training at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, his Radiology Research Fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston; and Interventional Radiology Fellowship at University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Suri is Board Certified by the American College of Radiology. His clinical interests include: carotid artery stent placement, chemoembolization, infrainguinal arterial interventions, radiofrequency ablations, uterine fibroid embolizations, and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts. Recently, Dr Suri also obtained his MBA with a healthcare focus from the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business in 2020.
During his tenure at UT Health since 2004, Dr. Suri has continued his research and clinical interests in interventional oncology and peripheral arterial disease and has been an investigator on several NIH and Industry funded grants. Dr. Suri has authored over 150 peer reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters, has been invited for over 80 lectures and has presented over 200 educational/scientific presentations at various national and international conferences. He has received over 50 national and international awards, including Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR), Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR), and Fellow of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (FCIRSE).
He has eagerly promoted resident and medical student education throughout in his roles at UT Health San Antonio as the Radiology Residency Director, Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program Director, and Vice Chair of Education. For his teaching accomplishments, he has been awarded the UT Regents Outstanding Teaching Award, UTHSCSA Presidential Teaching Excellence, Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, the American Board of Radiology Volunteer Service Award and a finalist in the ACGME's Parker J Palmer 'Courage to Teach' Award for Program Director Excellence.
Dr. Suri is also active in organized medicine and is the President of Bexar County Medical Society (2022) and member of their Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Nationally, he is an active member of the Economics subcommittees of the Texas Radiological Society and the American College of Radiology.
His service to the deparment and institution includes his roles as the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, Vice Chair Quality and Safety for the Department and Medical Director for Radiology services for University Health Systems. Working closely with the Department of Radiology, UT Health and University Health, Dr. Suri continues to actively serve the patients of South Texas in addition to his administrative and teaching roles.
